What do we do?
The Inside Out Project is funded annually by the Department of Human Services (DHS) – South Australian Government). More specifically, the Inside Out Project is funded by the HIV, HCV and Related Programs section (HHARP) that helps contribute to the reduction of HIV, Hepatitis C and related diseases in South Australia.

The Inside Out Project is managed by Child & Youth Health (Youth Services Division) – an independent State Government Health Unit funded primarily by the DHS, and is located at The Second Story Youth Health Service.

The Inside Out Project began in 1990, as a one off $4000.00 six - week workshop program for young gay, bi-sexual and same sex attracted young guys in Adelaide. The Project was based at the Central location of The Second Story Youth Health Service –and was known as the ‘Young Gays’ Project at that time.

The project rapidly grew by extending its services to the Northern region (Elizabeth) in 1994 and to the Southern region (Christies Beach) in 1999.

Presently the project operates with a team of four project workers offering a range of Primary Health Care services across three locations (Adelaide, Elizabeth and Christies Beach) in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia.

The goals, objectives and strategies of the ISO Project are guided by the continuing need to eliminate the transmission of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections amongst populations of gay, bisexual and same sex attracted young men.

The long-term goals of the ISO Project are explicitly defined by the broad goals and guiding principles of the Current Australian National and State HIV/AIDS Strategies, that is:

  • To eliminate the transmission of HIV
  • To minimise the personal and social impacts of HIV infection.
